Sivaji- The BOSS's BOSS

Sivaji-The Boss was by all means a movie made just for Rajni. With all the media hype and fan lore the movie ought to be seen . Reason being the movie is all about Rajni and his charisma. Truly that's what every rajni fan wants and not the true message shankar tries to press with his every other movie. Shankar on his part has done a pretty bad job considering the fact that he has convoluted around the same core since his first movie in Gentleman. Indian and Mudalvan to an extent were the exceptions. Shreya was a treat to watch. To me she is the next best thing tamil filmdom has seen since Asin's arrival. Vivek after a long run of loss of form is back with his catchy lines and spot comedies. Though he seems to be running out of ideas atleast. Suman has just done his part as written in script lacking the punch and aggression as expected of a Rajni's villain. This is where I feel Raghuvaran or even Prakashraj would have dealt it with aplomb.
At no cost am i gonna talk about the movie's crux. But having read Prashanth's article I feel it is injustice to despise the movie completely. From my opinion Rajni's movies since the 90's have basically lacked good storylines with Thalapathi, Padiyappa & Muthu apart. But, for an actor who is full of grace, style and charisma I doubt if that would really hamper the movie at all. So is the case in Sivaji. Shankar has tried passing the message in a different way(atleast intended to) and has clearly not shown any innovation in his ideas. The movie might lack logic as Prashanth had pointed out in the CPR scene. But frankly Rajni's mass comes from B and C sectors who definitely would'n know a thing about it. So to me that's acceptable though he is a software engineer. And Prashanth remember afterall he is a software engineer who could amass 200 crores just by working here for a decade or so. We only wish. So forget logics and commonsense. And to the next claim on Prashanth's as to why Rajni did not hire an advocate to enforce his issues is probably anyone's guess, considering the project quote. For all, the movie might have so many negatives but the one positive that is Rajni is good enough for a 3 hr entertainer. All that a Rajni fan would want is sit, watch the spectacle that is Rajni. The Superstar on his part has done an excellent job in assisting vivek with his catchy linefits and spot on comedies. The Sivaji,MGR, Kamal spoof was thoroughly enjoyable and so was the climax mimics by Chinni et al. The 'Motta' boss get up reminded us of rajni's yesteryears as villain. In all Rajni has carried the whole weight on his shoulders and delivered an enjoyable, stylish and a charismatic performance that makes Sivaji a clear winner among his most recent movies. To put matters in one line 'kettaley adhiruthula' is exactly what sivaji storm is. So to all,the advice would be rush to the theatres watch the splendour of rajni and enjoy it. Only one man in the Indian film history can turn an absolete story to a super hit and that is undoubtedly Rajni. Big B , SRK please find a hiding Sivaji has arrived to storm theatres all over India and most particularly in US.The fanfare here in Chicago and other major cities is just amazing. First day first show has never been this crazy away from India 'Walk into Sivaji with Sweet Pongal' was the say in Chicago;'Sivaji T-Shirt w/ ticket' in Bay Area and so was it in all major cities in US. That should just sum it all.

Haha. Maadu said he will write back to counter prashanth's allegations and what a post! Rajini, Rajini, Superstar, Superstar.... Either watch whatever he comes up with or die is the message from maadu I believe.

@ Abhiram: (Regarding your comment in the previous post "and ppl this time the movie is followin the bolly stratergy of max release and not the usual 100 day run format which means the movie will be off 30% screens after 3-4 weeks and smaller numbers after tht and so on..") One of the main reasons for the movie to be released in so many theaters is to fight video piracy. If for example, the movie is released in 5 theaters instead of 10, and assume 100 to be the capacity of each theater. Now 500 people have tickets to see the movie and the other 500 have to wait for tickets. By the time pirated prints will be out and many of that remaining 500 will see the pirated print and mostly likely will not come to theaters to see the movie. If on the other hand the movie is released on 10 theaters then the remaining 500 will come to the theaters as they get the tickets. And once most of the initial audience has seen the movie in the first couple of weeks it becomes easier for the people who want to see it once again in theaters to get tickets. If not these repeat audiences will be content with watching the Pirated prints.

I guess this strategy of releasing in many theaters is more to do with market reach and penetration and should result in increased Gross revenue. But then again, if you look at the collections of individual theaters, its a different issue altogether.

dogg.....fightin piracy is a diff story...movie business down south is followin bolly strat which in turn follows the holly stratergy...max release means you get back max money as quickly as possible. which makes the movie a min guarantee movie at least...the idea is even if there r bad reviews...by the time the review readin audiences go to the theatre...the movie would have made its money andanything more is an extra...ths stratergy essentially targets packed houses for 3-4 weeks and then anything more is a bonus.take a movie like DON...2500 screens across the world....70cr gross in the first week...profits made in a weeks time.movie ran for a month...and has already come on tv i think(in a yrs time).sivaji has 720-750 screens...expect a 20-22cr gross...and so on....

ya i think that makes sense ..reducing the risk factor by way of releasing max prints is becoming the trend wit tamil and hindi films.. considering theyr the big 2 among indian industry..also now the trend of releasing movies abroad is bcoming more and more lucrative..fyi.
i was talking to this guy who bought the prints from AVM..and u wudn believ the amt was a whopping 15000$ for i think 1 weekend or 2probably ... so the movie screening started on thursday wit 1 show and then friday wit 2 shows ,sat wit 4 shows and sunday wit 4..so for 11 shows it's $15000... imagine in big cities like chicago, bay area, ny,dc,la it's goin on for 2-3 weekends.. so they make close to 15000$ jus wit one city... so take 10 cities around the world running 1 weekend on an average to say the least...its close to 6 crores jus for 10 cities for one weekend... this is all to say the least the money distributors make... and i m taking jus 10 majo cities..and there atleast 10-15 small cities throuut US alone running for 1 show or 2shows for which they place to a 5000-10000 USD... all this happens in a week..and eeryone goes home happy... and the no. of shows jus multiply if u take the scenario in india and so does the money..happy cake up in first 2-3 weeks.. nything after that period is jus added cheese... jus to elaborate on abhiram's comments

@harvind:kinda got it wrong....uve got telugu..which releases more movies than n tam..120:100 on an avg every yr..also in terms of total gross incomes they generate more money....simple stats.. uve got twice the number of theatres out in AP as in TN(size and population of the state) also the bolly trend started out there last yr with major movies going for releases in 500-650 theatres..more money in the ind in general....no wonder uve got heroines lining up there..they pay far more...trisha makes 1-1.25 there..here it is around 60-75lcs...same with heroes..on an avg the hero there makes more money...but bollywood just a matter of time b4 the pay packets go ballistic..with adlas and other corporates comin in...already some ridiculous deals have been stuck...more on that later.

@harvind...the overseas colections donot exactly work the way uve put it..for south movies at least....Cm made 8cr overseas...this time they r lookin at 15..that the news atleast...thats why the large release in se asia.

Harvind Dokshan said...

@ abhiram: helps knowing the telugu industry isn it... but i m pretty sure thats the way it is for sivaji this time as told by the distributor here..6cr jus in major cities per week is amazing... so tat was jus a rough fig... if u were ot go by exact standings it might well go beyond 15 cr comfortably...

Whenever maadu argues the first thing that comes to my mind is the way he argued with that LOTUS guy (the ones that came for the supposed Personality Development in our final year).....
and how someone gave him a handshake and how maadu is still preserving that hand by not washing it at all
:D
