hey could not resist from asking this....all this seggregation apart dont we follow that even in the mtc busses???ladies on the left..if iam not wrong infact in some of the mtc busses i remember seeing the exact config as the jeppiar busses first 4 or 5 rows are reserved for women.
In MTC buses the separation is justifiable.You have pickpockets, men who board the buses to brush against women, etc.,
And the crowd is unpredictable. At some times there could be a 50-50 distribution of men and women in the bus and everyone has equal chances of getting a seat. At times the bus might already be teeming with men and if at the next stop some 10 women board the bus, they wont have any seats.
And you got to understand the protectionist mentality of the Govt as well. Moreover, the conductor, driver or the public are not going to protest if a husband and wife or even a boy and a girl sit next to each other.
But Jeppiar's buses are not like that. His motto is "Boys are boys and girls are girls and never the twain shall meet". So he also puts a chain between the front and rear section of the bus. Forget about sitting next to each other, boys and girls are not even allowed to talk in the buses (campus too).
hehe. So lets not compare the over zealot attitude of jeppiar with the liberal mindset of the Indian community :D
@ dog..thats what i meant..all i said was we need to get our idea of feminism right...if we consider women to b special and hence need special rights then fine..decleare it..give them seats in a bus give them seats in a parliament...if u say there is no diff bet men and women then ppl shld be allowed to fight for whatever is available...why is it that a man who boards earlier had to vacate bacause a seat is "reserved" for a woman...so clearly the guy who gets in ater half the seats r filled does not have an equal chance...so india and in particular indian women ought to decide what feminism they follow...relative or absolute..

if women get seats in bus its to avoid some 'things' (its taboo to talk about the 'things' in public forum)...you have to understand that all things cannot be viewed from the same perspective..
so 50% seats in bus should not mean it should mean in all including seats in education institutions, parliament , etc.,
